Top 5 Happy Hours in Berkeley

Introduction

If you have ever found yourself googling, “happy hours near me” then you have come to the right place.  This list will be breaking down my personal favorite happy hours in the Berkeley area.  All my Cal Bears need to listen up!

#5  Triple Rock Brewing 

Name another bar that has beers for 10 cents – go ahead, I’ll wait. Every single day Triple Rock offers half pints for just 10 cents. Yup, just a dime for a 6 oz beer. The catch? This epic deal runs for only 10 minutes. Triple Rock rebranded in 2024 and is totally worth checking out!  Find them at 1920 Shattuck Ave, Berkeley.

Triple Rock Brewing also boasts a beautiful outdoor setting area with plenty of coverage on sunny days!

#4  KingFish Pub and Cafe

KingFish Pub is one of the oldest and coziest bars in North Oakland.   Their drinks start cheap but get even cheaper with their several happy hours.   This Pub resides in Oakland, but is a hot-spot for Berkeley students for a good reason! Find this hidden gem on 5227 Telegraph, Oakland.

Mondays: 3-6Pm $18 Pitchers

Tuesdays: 3Pm-Until Empty $4 Coors

Wednesday: 3PM-6pm $5 Well Drinks

#3  Freehouse

‍

Freehouse might have the best ambience of any happy hour spot on this list.  Their happy hour consists of 3 rotating drafts that go for just 5 bucks from 4PM-6PM, Mon-Fri.  You can enjoy these quality drafts out back by any of their numerous fire places.  Freehouse looks like an old mansion and has the interior to match.  Feel free to bring lots of friends because this place is huge!!!  This neat spot is right by Berkeley campus at  2700 Bancroft Way, Berkeley.

#2  Heroic Italian

This wine bar is a classy spot with a large patio area.  Heroic Italian has an extensive happy hour menu so I will just touch on some of my favorites and you will have to check them out to find the rest.  First off, let's debrief the semantics here; Tues-Sund 3PM-5PM, 50% off All Lite Bites, $5 house wines, and $4.50 Beers.  Getting a beer for less than $5 bucks in the bay area is pretty unheard of plus you pair that with half off small bites—-->INSANITY!  My favorite snack there has to be the Calabrian Chili Shrimps (originally $14, $7 happy hour)  This spot is a little closer to downtown at 2020 Kittridge Street, Berkeley.

#1 Bear’s Lair

As the name may suggest, this bar is mostly for my Cal students, but is accessible to anyone. The best spot to catch a game on campus has to be the Bear’s Lair and they have a happy hour to make sure you don’t break the bank while doing so.  They have a fairly standard but good happy hour that goes from Mon-Thurs 2PM-5PM.  This includes your favorite beers like Coors, Pabst, and Berkeley’s own Trumer Pilsner for just $6 a pop.  They also have some solid eats such as a Bear’s Lair Burger for $10 which is awesome!  However, this happy hour is not what granted them the prestigious number one spot on my list….a little event called Beat The Clock is what brought them here.  Beat The Clock is a Friday happy hour of sorts from 4PM-7PM where beers start incredibly cheap and gradually increase in price.

4-5 PM:  Pints for $2   Pitchers for $8

5-6 PM:  Pints for $2.50 Pitchers for $10

6-7 PM:  Pints for $3   Pitchers for $12
